Brandon Clarkeâs death is being investigated as a possible overdose, according to authorities in Los Angeles, local outlets reported.
The Memphis Grizzlies player, 29, was pronounced dead shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, May 11, after the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) arrived at a home in the San Fernando Valley, responding to a 911 call, according to NBC4 in Los Angeles.
Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene, the station reported.
Representatives for the LAFD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for more information.

On Tuesday, May 12, Clarkeâs agency Priority Sports was the first to confirm his death.
âWe are beyond devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke,â Priority Sports said in the statement. âHe was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched. He was the gentlest soul who was the first to be there for all of his friends and family. Our hearts are so broken as we think about his mom, Whitney, his entire family, and all of his friends and teammates.â
Brandon Clarke's death is being investigated as a possible overdose.
Authorities reported that drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.

The statement continued, âFrom high school to San Jose State to Gonzaga to the Grizzlies, Brandon impacted everyone who was part of his life. Everyone loved BC because he was always there as the most supportive friend you could ever imagine. He was so unique in the joy he brought to all of those in his life. Itâs just impossible to put into words how much heâll be missed.â
The 6-foot-7 veteran forward, who played his entire seven-year career in Memphis, suffered a season-ending injury during a game in December after sustaining a right calf strain in the first quarter of the Grizzlies' home game against the Washington Wizards.

Clarke only played in two games over the past season, and he dealt with multiple injuries over the course of his career including a torn Achilles during the 2023-24 season, according to USA Today.
Last month, he was arrested for speeding and drug possession after leading Cross County Sheriffâs deputies in Arkansas on a chase in which speeds reached over 100 mph, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported.
Clarke was found with over 230 grams of kratom in his possession, an arrest affidavit obtained by the newspaper said.
Kratom is an herbal extract derived from the leaves of an evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia, and is known for its psychoactive properties, according to the Mayo Clinic. The drug is not banned on the federal level but is illegal in some states, including Arkansas.
On Tuesday, Clarkeâs team shared a tribute to the fan favorite, who donated money and frequently volunteered in the Memphis community.
âWe are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,â the Grizzlies said in a statement. âBrandon was an outstanding teammate and even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten.â
The statement continued, âWe express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.â
