With the Mets struggling mightily to produce offense consistently, they are making a hasty promotion of one of their top prospects.
A.J. Ewing, the Mets' top position player prospect and Major League Baseball's No. 78 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, will be called up by the Mets, according to multiple reports. The Athletic's Will Sammon was the first to report the news of the 21-year-old's promotion to the big leagues.
Ewing, the club's second-ranked prospect who plays the outfield and second base, has only played 12 games in Triple-A Syracuse after being promoted to the Mets' top minor league outfit on April 27. He has had an immediate impact at the level, where he is 15-for-46 with three doubles, one triple, nine runs, four RBI and five stolen bases.

The left-handed hitting prospect, who was drafted by the Mets out of Springboro High School in Ohio with a compensatory pick in the fourth round in 2023, had a 1.082 OPS with nine extra-base hits, including two home runs, seven RBI and 16 runs in 18 games for Double-A Binghamton before his promotion.
He stole 70 bases across three levels, between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton, last season.
Ewing could provide an offensive boost in the outfield for a unit that is reeling from the loss of Luis Robert Jr., who has yet to resume baseball activities as he recovers from a herniated disc in his lower back. Austin Slater and Tyrone Taylor have provided mixed results in Robert's absence.
As a team, the Mets have scored the second-fewest runs in MLB and have the lowest OPS in baseball (.628). Over the weekend in Arizona, the Mets dropped the final two games of the series after scoring two combined runs.
They had two hits in nine innings on Friday before breaking through for two more runs on three hits in the 10th inning of a 3-1 victory.
