It is rather obvious that New York Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza is coaching for his job. Losers of 12 straight before Wednesday, the Mets have been the most disappointing team in Major League Baseball to start the year by a wide margin and currently hold the worst record in baseball.
Not a thing has gone well for the Mets, and the past few days have completely shown that. Having a chance to beat the Chicago Cubs on Sunday but blowing a lead in the 9th inning, as well as literally having the Minnesota Twins beat on Tuesday, but failing to get outs in the latter half of the game, the Mets have blown games, something bad teams that are in a rut deal with throughout the season.
And at this point, it sounds like it's really impacting how Mendoza feels. He said that everybody felt good, thinking they were going to come away with a win after Nolan McLean absolutely dominated for 6.2 innings. Instead, the bullpen came in and just couldn't get the job done.
âIt sucks, because youâre feeling good. Especially with the way the game was developing⊠You watch Nolan kind of dominate⊠Lindor sets the tone there with a three-run homer, you feel like you were getting some momentum, but then after that, we couldnât do anything else," Mendoza said, per Heavy.
It's unfortunate that Mendoza is going through this, as he seems like a genuinely good guy. Unfortunately, being a good guy doesn't necessarily help skippers keep their jobs in Major League Baseball.
