The New York Mets made a lot of changes to the bullpen this offseason, and one of the main ones was the departure of Edwin Diaz, as he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
But the Mets also added a ton of talent, with former New York Yankees relievers Luke Weaver and Devin Williams being the two biggest moves. However, those weren't the only moves, as the Mets signed another reliever to a $1.75 million deal.
That reliever, Luis Garcia, was a signing that the Mets clearly regretted making. Zachary Rotman of Fansided.com highlighted the regret from the Mets with this deal, and with the veteran righty being designated for assignment, it's no surprise the Mets regret this move.
"Even if Garcia was throwing as hard as he was in 2025, was he the right fit?" Rotman writes. "The fit was weird, and the results, albeit in a very small sample, have been quite poor."
While Garcia pitched in just six games this season for the Mets, this signing, a cheap one-year deal worth $1.75 million total, has been a move the Mets already regret making.
He posted a 7.11 ERA with -0.3 bWAR and five earned runs allowed across 6.1 innings pitched with two walks and four strikeouts.
His 55 ERA+ and 2.053 WHIP are brutal numbers, and were not nearly good enough to justify keeping him on the roster, especially since he was not a big contract.

Had the Mets signed him to a larger deal, they might've stuck with him for longer. But his struggles and cheap deal made this regretful signing an easy one to move on from.
Garcia is a ground-ball pitcher and relies on quality defense. With the Mets' new-look and out-of-position infield, that was an odd pairing right from the start.
This regret would've been a lot bigger had Garcia's deal been larger. Fortunately for the Mets, this mistake only cost them $1.75 million and was an easy fix with a simple DFA.
But, it doesn't change that this was a move the Mets regret, as some other dart-throw reliever would've been a better investment.
