Since nothing is going the Mets' way and manager Carlos Mendoza’s lineup changes are not working, the third-year skipper is changing his starters for Sunday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs. The Mets will send right-hander Tobias Myers to the mound instead of left-hander David Peterson, who was the scheduled starter.
Peterson found out on Saturday that he would be starting on Sunday. Disappointed by the decision, the All-Star left-hander took it in stride and told Mets beat writer Nick Puma of the New York Post it’s about what “the best decision for the team is.”

0-3 on the season with a 6.41 ERA, Peterson has not been great in his last three starts, allowing 14 earned runs and eight walks in 14.1 innings. A little breather could help Peterson get back on track after he went 9-6 with a 4.22 ERA last season.
As for Myers, since he was acquired in the trade with right-hander Freddy Peralta, he has been an effective arm out of the pen. Minutes one bad outing — allowing three earned runs in three innings — Myers is 0-1 with 3.46 ERA.
Even though he’s primarily a reliever, Myers has been a capable starting pitcher, with an 8-7 record and a 3.48 ERA in 31 starts.
