While many New York Mets fans were excited for the season to start, much of that excitement has died down. They have not gotten much of anything going this year, digging themselves a deep hole to climb out of.

They currently sit in last place in the NL East with their 12-22 record, but that is not all. The Mets have the worst record across MLB going into Monday's matchups.

Injuries have played a big role, especially with Juan Soto missing time and Francisco Lindor currently on the IL with a calf strain. On top of that, some of the players on the field have struggled mightily.

The Mets had a good chance to gain some ground last week during their series against the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels. However, they would only win one game against Washington (1-2), and won the series in L.A. (2-1) for a 3-3 week.

With a big loss in Washington and another player lost to the IL, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller does not have much faith in this club, ranking them 30th in his latest power rankings.

"They are now 5-18 since their 7-4 start, including a real embarrassment of a 14-2 home loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. Clay Holmes gave them a pair of quality starts and wins, building upon his impressive start. However, they also lost Ronny Mauricio to a fractured thumb. The Mets are stuck in some kind of nightmare 'one step forward, two steps backward' loop."

Mauricio will be out for a potential of 6-8 weeks, which is a big blow for the Mets. He was the one taking over for the injured Lindor, and now it will likely be Bo Bichette taking over.

If things don't change soon, this is going to be quite the long season for the fans, who were hoping for a lot from their club this season.
