The New York Mets' downslide continues, as they were shut out 1-0 on Sunday, as the Athletics complete their sweep of them. The Mets scored a total of six runs, all of which came in Game 2's 11-6 loss, and it is their fifth straight loss.
The Mets' inability to score cost them an otherwise solid pitching performance from right-hander Freddy Peralta, but he offered some words of encouragement to the team moving forward.
"We are way better than this. We have a great team, and we believe in each other,” Peralta said to SNY Mets after Sunday’s loss. “I know that we're going to do better. We love each other - we're going to keep pushing hard to be better and win some games."
Peralta threw six innings, allowed four hits, three walks, and struck out six. The lone run scored was a solo home run hit by the Athletics' first baseman Nick Kurtz.

In four starts this season, Peralta has done well but hasn't pitched like an ace, going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and striking out 25 in 21.0 innings. Sunday afternoon's outing against the Athletics was the first time in his four starts that Peralta went six innings.
The Mets begin a six-game road trip starting Monday, facing the Los Angeles Dodgers (April 13-15) and the Chicago Cubs (April 17-19). Going on the road and getting away from Citi Field could do the Mets some good to get back on track.
