The New York Mets are off to a very slow start—one that wasn’t expected. It has been a mixture of poor play and injuries. With the struggles, there have been questions about whether manager Carlos Mendoza could be fired, but Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns made it clear that isn’t the case as of now.

“Amid one of the worst starts in franchise history, the Mets are backing their manager," MLB.com’s Anthony DiComowrote. "Carlos Mendoza will remain at the helm for the Mets, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Friday morning.”

The biggest problem for New York is undoubtedly the offense, which has done very little so far.

“The offense is the worst in the majors. The proof is evident in old-school statistics and new-age metrics. The Mets rank 30th -- that's last -- in runs scored, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. They're last in wOBA, wRC+ and ISO. Juan Soto, who missed nearly three weeks with a calf injury, and Francisco Alvarez are the only healthy regulars with an OPS+ above 100 -- that's average,”
