The New York Mets finally ended their 12-game losing streak with a win over the Minnesota Twins. And the very next day, they won another game, starting a winning streak for the first time in a while.
But the Mets used a lot of pitchers to get the win, and need some more help in the bullpen for the weekend series against the Colorado Rockies in New York.
According to The Athletic's Will Sammon, the Mets are calling up a new pitcher in 34-year-old journeyman veteran Carl Edwards Jr.
"Needing some fresh pitching help, the Mets are promoting Carl Edwards Jr., league sources said, and optioning Christian Scott, last night's starter," Sammon reports.
Edwards is a veteran pitcher who's made appearances for eight different teams in the last 11 years of his Major League career. If he appears for the Mets this season, it will be his ninth team in 12 seasons.
In his career, he has a 3.56 ERA across 300 appearances. Back with the Chicago Cubs, Edwards was a great reliever. he posted a 2.98 ERA in 73 outings in 2017, and in 2016, during the Cubs World Series run, he posted a 2.84 ERA in eight games.
Carl Edwards Jr. is a 34-year-old right-handed reliever with previous stints at the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers.
The Mets are promoting Edwards to strengthen their bullpen after a recent winning streak and heavy use of pitchers in their games.
Edwards could provide much-needed relief depth for the Mets as they aim to maintain their winning momentum against the Colorado Rockies.

He has a 120 ERA+ for his career, which seems more than good enough for a team to invest in him as a consistent member of a bullpen.

Part of the issue for Edwards has been his inconsistency. He had a 4.50 ERA last year with the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels.
In the year prior, he allowed three baserunners without getting an out for the San Diego Padres. Then he had a 3.69 ERA in 32 games in 2023 and a 2.76 ERA in 2022.
Edwards is a decent reliever for his big league career, but some inconsistency recently has led him to be without a big league roster spot. In the minors this season, he's posted a 5.29 ERA in four starts at Triple-A.
He should be an intriguing addition to the pitching staff, whether it's as a starter or reliever. Scott heads back to the minors as the Mets shake up the pitching depth ahead of their series against the Rockies in the middle of their first winning streak in weeks.
