Mitchell High School boys tennis team achieved two victories against Aberdeen Central and Sioux Falls Washington, improving their season record to 10-3. They won 8-1 against Aberdeen and 6-3 against Sioux Falls Washington.
May 1—MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School boys tennis team earned back-to-back victories in a triangular with Aberdeen Central and Sioux Falls Washington on Friday at Hitchcock Park.
The Kernels opened the day with a convincing 8-1 dual win over the Golden Eagles, followed by a 6-3 victory over the Warriors to push their record to 10-3 on the season.
In the first dual against Aberdeen Central, Mitchell only dropped Flight 1's singles match with Matthew Mauszycki against Aberdeen's Dawson Pederson 10-7, then won the other eight matchups. At No. 5 singles, Simon Wiese picked up a 10-0 victory, while Dawson Adams downed Wyatt Kiesz 10-3 in Flight 4. Asher Dannenbring (No. 2), Cooper Star (No. 3) and Dayton Adams (No. 6) each picked up convincing singles victories for the Kernels.
In doubles action against the Golden Eagles, MHS picked up all three victories. The Kernels were paced by the duo of Dannenbring and Dawson Adams in Flight 2, who downed Aberdeen's Wyatt Kiesz and Aric Tennant 10-0. In Flight 3, Mitchell's Wiese and Dayton Adams beat Grayson Rehder and Josiah Grandpre, of Aberdeen, 10-1, while Mauszycki and Star earned a 10-6 victory in Flight 1 doubles.
In the second dual against Sioux Falls Washington, the Kernels were paced by Star (No. 3), Dawson Adams (No. 4) and Wiese (No. 5), who did not surrender one singles match to each pick up 10-0 victories. In Flight 6 singles, Dayton Adams won his second match of the day with a 10-1 victory over Washington's Beckett Ruscitti. Warriors' Chase Rima downed Mitchell's Mauszycki 10-0 at No. 1, while Eli Boyd defeated Kernels' Dannenbring 10-5 in Flight 2.
In doubles play, the Kernel duo of Dannenbring and Adams cruised to their second doubles win of the day in Flight 2 over Sioux Falls Washington's Andrew Lewis and Beckett Ruscitti 10-1. In Flight 3, Wiese and Dayton Adams downed the Warriors' Jacob Van Rooyen and Corey Schneider 10-4, while Mitchell's Mauszycki and Star dropped their Flight 1 matchup, 10-4.
Mitchell (10-3, 4-0 ESD) will host a quadrangular next with Vermillion, Pierre and Yankton at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 4 at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.
Mitchell High School won the match against Aberdeen Central with a score of 8-1.
