If there was any doubt that Rory McIlroy would be freed up by last yearâs Masters win, it evaporated into the Augusta air.
After waiting over a decade to win The Masters, McIlroy became the fourth player in the eventâs storied history to win twice in a row. He joined Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Sir Nick Faldo as the only players to retain their title.
On Thursday, Fred Couples said that McIlroy may never lose this tournament again. McIlroy described Augusta as his âhome courseâ in his champion press conference, and he looked incredibly comfortable at a place that once haunted him.
While it seemed unfathomable before that McIlroy would ever win The Masters, now it seems like the only question is how many more he will win. Michael Kim shared his thoughts on that after the event.

Kim, who unfortunately missed the cut this week despite a good showing at the Texas Open, gave his post-Masters thoughts on X after the week was over. And when doing so, he predicted how many Masters McIlroy will end his career with.
The PGA Tour winner posted: âThoughts from Masters:
â-The Masters is a special event to be at. The vibe/energy/atmosphere is unlike any other place Iâve been to. Everyone is excited to be there, patrons are on their best behavior and itâs truly a privilege to compete there. I certainly didnât play as well as I would have hoped but more motivation to come back and experience a masters Sunday in contention.
â-The course really does feel like it fits Rory so well. His high bombs off the tee and overall game lets him find much easier birdies and eagles than most of the field. He has a comfort now around this place that guys like Tiger, Jack, and Phil had. He might have 4 or 5 by the end of his career.
â- I just made too many simple mistakes during the week. I didnât make any doubles but some of the âsimplerâ shots especially with my wedges werenât crisp enough. Next time.
â-They do let guys that MC stay and practice. The club asks we hit on the right side and there were plenty golfers practicing even Jose Maria. Some dudes just love the grind and practice.â
If McIlroy can continue this run, maybe he can challenge Nicklaus for the record of six Masters wins!
