Earlier this month, Michael Malone and North Carolina received a massive frontcourt boost after losing Henri Veesar to the NBA Draft, landing 7-foot international star Sayon Keita.
The Tar Heels were hoping to hit the jackpot again by signing a 2.6 blocks per game defensive star to pair with Keita. Unfortunately, UNC whiffed on the former Florida Atlantic forward.
âNEWS: Florida Atlantic transfer forward Devin Williams has committed to Seton Hall,â On3âs Joe Tipton reported Monday.
âThe 6-10 redshirt sophomore averaged 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game this season, ranking sixth nationally in blocks during the regular season. Former 4-star recruit who began his career at UCLA.â
According to an early May report from Hitmen Hoops, the Tar Heels were among the programs that reached out to Brown after he announced his decision to enter the transfer portal.
It isnât challenging to theorize as to why, considering Williams has proven to be a high-motor shot blocker who isnât afraid to challenge any opponent at the rim as a primary or help defender.
Additionally, although Williams appeared in only 10 games for UCLA as a freshman, he still has valuable experience in a high-major environment with lofty expectations.
Simply put, the Riverside, California native would have been a good addition to the Tar Heels, but it wasnât meant to be.
