Michigan basketball secures five-star McCoy, four-star Cosby

Michigan basketball is continuing to cement its 2026-27 roster, partially through the transfer portal, but also via good, old-fashioned, high school recruiting. Though the Wolverines had already signed four high school players (four-star forward Quinn Costello, four-star guard Joseph Hartman, three-star forward Malachi Brown, and center Marcus Moller), they added two more on Tuesday.

Having committed in the middle of the Final Four against Arizona, five-star guard Brandon McCoy Jr. is the big get for the class. He made the announcement live on the broadcast with the Fab Five. The California-based guard figures to get involved quickly, not unlike fellow former five-star guard Trey McKenney. But the Wolverines also signed another guard in four-star Lincoln Cosby, who could also figure in relatively early. He hails from the basketball factory Montverde Academy in Florida.

David and Meredith Kaplan University of Michigan basketball coach Dusty May announced Tuesday (April 28) the signing of 6-5 guard Brandon McCoy Jr. and 6-10 forward Lincoln Cosby to Big Ten Scholarship Agreements.

The duo joins Michigan's previously announced November signees -- Quinn Costello, Joseph Hartman, Marcus Molller and Malachi Brown -- to bring the Wolverines' Class of 2026 to six newcomers.

"Brandon and Lincoln are two outstanding additions to our program," said May. "Brandon is an explosive scorer and competitor who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Lincoln has tremendous size, versatility and upside, and we're excited about his long-term future. Both fit the culture and vision we're building at Michigan."

McCoy, a consensus five-star prospect, is ranked among the nation's top 20 players in the Class of 2026. A dynamic three-level scorer with athleticism and defensive versatility, he starred at Sierra Canyon School during his senior season after beginning his prep career at St. John Bosco High School.

"Brandon is a special talent and someone who has the ability to impact the game in so many ways. He has a special feel for the game and competitiveness that really stands out. He can score at all three levels, create for others, and make winning plays on both ends of the floor. What stands out most is his approach to the game and his desire to keep getting better."
