Michigan secured the commitment of another highly-touted edge rusher in the 2027 recruiting class on Saturday afternoon, as four-star Indianapolis (Ind.) Franklin Central star Jayce Brewer announced his commitment to the Wolverines.
The news comes after Brewer visited Ann Arbor twice this spring, most recently for the spring game. On those trips, Brewer connected with the coaching staff and players on a personal level. While the former coaching staff initially offered him, it was defensive tackles coach Larry Black, defensive ends coach Lewis Powell and others who helped get Michigan to the top.
“I would say the history of great defensive linemen they have produced and relationships that have been built with coaches,” Brewer told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.
Michigan beat the likes of Kentucky, Auburn, Purdue, Indiana and Tennessee for Brewer, who will take his official visit to Ann Arbor from June 19-21 during Victor’s Weekend.
Following this commitment, Michigan is up to seven commitments in the 2027 class. Along with Brewer, the Wolverines hold commitments from four-star offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey, four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, three-star offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau, three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito and three-star safety Maxwell Miles.
At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Brewer is the No. 361 overall prospect in the country, No. 33 edge rusher and No. 9 player in Indiana, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. This past season, he recorded 31 tackles, including nine for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 13 quarterback hurries.
