Michigan Sets Sights on Texas Star: 2028 QB Trey Wright Taking Notice

The University of Michigan football program is wasting no time identifying the next generation of leadership under center. The Wolverines have officially entered the sweepstakes for one of the most prolific young playmakers in the country: Trey Wright, an elite class of 2028 quarterback out of Frisco Lone Star High School in Texas.

While the 2028 class is still years away from signing day, Wright has already established himself as a marquee name on the national recruiting trail. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 175 pounds, the dual-threat signal-caller is coming off a historic 2025 campaign that saw him earn MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honors.

A Record-Breaking Resume

Wright’s sophomore season was nothing short of legendary. He led the country in total yardage, amassing a staggering 5,806 total yards. His arm talent was on full display as he threw for 4,042 yards and 38 touchdowns, leading the Lone Star Rangers to a 15-1 record and an appearance in the Texas 5A Division 1 State Championship game.

The accolades followed quickly:

The Michigan Connection

The Wolverines’ pursuit of Wright is being spearheaded by quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr., who personally visited Frisco to evaluate the young star. The interest is clearly mutual. Wright expressed his gratitude for the offer, stating it left him feeling "truly grateful and blessed".

Michigan also holds a unique "inside track" thanks to a former teammate. Current Michigan defensive back Jordan Russell (formerly Jordan Deck) played alongside Wright at Lone Star before heading to Ann Arbor. Russell has reportedly been an active ambassador for the program, reaching out to Wright to share his positive experiences with the Wolverines.

"Jordan has already reached out to tell me how much he loves the program," Wright noted, highlighting the importance of personal connections in his recruitment.
