The Seattle Seahawks made waves with their selection of Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price. Seattle made him only the fourth first round running back in franchise history to close out the first night of the 2026 NFL draft. Following the conclusion of the first round, Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald immediately addressed the Seattle press corps. to discuss their pick.
Reports earlier in the day were indicating the Seahawks wanted to trade out of the first round to garner more draft ammo. Going into the weekend, Seattle only had four picks. Now, they have three. Schneider discussed how they felt they had "some opportunities for a minute" regarding a trade, but they fell apart. Perhaps the Rams taking quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 13 removed Seattle's ability to use him as leverage for a team near the end of the round. Schneider also said he felt concern other teams would have taken Price before them had they waited to draft him.
However, don't let that fool you into thinking the Seahawks aren't absolutely jazzed about Price. Both Macdonald and Schneider took the time to praise the culture they've built in Seattle, and how Price fits into it. Macdonald even mentioned newly hired running backs coach Thomas Hammock. Ironically, Hammock actually defeated Price in a college game when his NIU Huskies upset the Irish in South Bend during the 2024 season.
Macdonald and Schneider continued to praise Price for his loyalty to Notre Dame, as he stuck it out all three years despite playing behind Jeremiyah Love.
