Page Six released the photos of Vrabel and Russini, which show them alone at the resort, hugging, holding hands and sitting together by a pool. The outlet referred to the photographer as its "spy."

After initially backing Russini, The Athletic opened an investigation into the reporter, Front Office Sports reported, adding that she would be sidelined while the probe was ongoing. The New York Times, which owns The Athletic, confirmed the investigation one day later with a report of its own.
Russini announced her resignation before the investigation could conclude.
Vrabel made his first public statement since the photos were released, but didn't shed much light into what actually happened.
