Minnesota Twins’ Taj Bradley Continues Strong Start to Season on Wednesday
The Minnesota Twins lost 5-3 to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, but starting pitcher Taj Bradley continues to be a bright spot. The right-hander is now 3-1 with a 2.85 ERA over seven starts, and he's on pace for a breakout season after logging a 5.59 ERA in 2023, a 4.11 ERA in 2024, and a 5.05 ERA in 2025.
Bradley pitched a season-high seven innings on Wednesday and allowed just two runs on four hits to go with seven strikeouts against two walks. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder threw also threw 73 strikes out of 114 pitches.
Bradley didn't allow a hit until J.P. Crawford deposited a solo homer to right in the top of the third inning. After that, the Georgia native allowed just one more hit until the seventh, when Dominic Canzone and Cole Young hit back-to-back doubles. Young plated Canzone on his double to tie the game 2-2.
The score stayed that way until Victor Caratini hit an RBI double for the Twins in the eighth. However, Minnesota's bullpen coughed up three runs in the ninth, and the offense couldn't answer.

Minnesota acquired Bradley from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for reliever Griffin Jax at the trade deadline last season. It initially looked like Tampa Bay won the deal, as Jax logged a 3.60 ERA over 23 outings to finish the season while Bradley had a 6.61 ERA over six starts.
However, Bradley is making the Twins look smarter now, as Jax has a 6.35 ERA over 12 appearances this year. There's plenty of time for things to change, but this situation exemplifies why organizations must be patient with their investments.
If Bradley maintains his momentum, he could become a cornerstone piece for Minnesota. The 2018 fifth-round draft pick has been the squad's best pitcher this season, as he leads it in wins, ERA, and strikeouts (44). He's also under team control through 2028 and is affordable, as he's making just $802,050 on his arbitration deal this season, per Spotrac.
Meanwhile, the Twins are now 13-18 after Wednesday's loss. They've now lost each of their last four series, with their last series win being against the Boston Red Sox from April 13 to 15. The Red Sox are now 12-19, third-worst in the AL.
Up next for Minnesota is a home series against the Toronto Blue Jays starting on Thursday. Right-handed pitcher Bailey Ober will start against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman, with the first pitch at 7:40 p.m. ET.
