Iga Swiatek took her first defeat under new coach Francisco Roig, losing in three sets to Mirra Andreeva in Stuttgart.
The pair put on a great show at the German event, with the Russian teenager coming out on top in the deciding set.
For Andreeva, it was another positive moment early into the clay court season, having already picked up a title at the Linz Open before heading to Stuttgart.
Andreeva is enjoying an impressive unbeaten run and following her latest win over Swiatek, she now has 11 straight victories and is into her second quarterfinal of 2024.

Swiatek took the opening set and appeared to be in control, but Andreeva rallied to turn the match around and reach the semi-finals.
It marked a rare achievement: no one had managed to come back from a set down to beat Swiatek on clay since 2019, when Karolina Muchova did it in Prague.
Muchova is still in contention at the Stuttgart Open as well. She got past Coco Gauff in three sets and will face Elina Svitolina next.
If results go their way, Swiatek’s only two comeback defeats on clay could end up meeting in the final. It would be quite a storyline.
Andreeva, who has generally been stronger on hard courts, has started this year’s clay swing in solid form.
The win over Swiatek was her seventh straight victory on clay and included wins against some strong opponents.
Six of those have come against players ranked inside the top 100, while the other came against Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens.
The match ended with Mirra Andreeva winning in three sets against Iga Swiatek.

Her victory against Swiatek is just her third top-10 win on clay and her first since the 2024 season when she beat Aryna Sabalenka at Roland Garros.
