Mirra Andreeva had booked her spot in the Madrid Open quarter-finals after a hard-fought win over Anna Bondar.
Andreeva proved too strong for her Hungarian opponent, defeating Bondar 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 on Court Three.
The match had been tightly contested from start to finish, and Andreeva shed tears of relief after coming through it on top.

She also became the first player to reach the last eight at Madrid twice before turning 18 since Martina Hingis did it back in 1996 and 1997.
There is plenty of excitement about Andreevaâs future. She currently sits at No.43 in the world rankings and is expected to climb even higher once they are updated next week.
Fernandez overcame Tunisian third seed Ons Jabeur 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to set up a meeting with Bondar in the next round.
OptaAce notes that Mirra Andreeva is the youngest player since Martina Hingis to reach three consecutive quarter-finals at a single Tier I / WTA-1000 event, a feat Hingis accomplished in Miami from 1997 to 1999.
Hingis claimed the title in 1997, beating Monica Seles 6-2, 6-1 in the final. The following year, she fell to Venus Williams in the semi-finals and repeated that stage exit in 1999, this time to Serena Williams.
The Swiss legend made six straight quarter-final appearances in Miami between 1997 and 2002. Andreeva reached her first Madrid Open quarter-final at just 16 years old, defeating Taylor Townsend, Linda Noskova, Marketa Vondrousova and Jasmine Paolini before falling to Aryna Sabalenka.

She returned to the quarter-finals again in {{YEAR}}, losing to Coco Gauff. Now competing as an adult for the first time at Roland Garros after turning eighteen in April of this year.
Mirra Andreevaâs run at this yearâs Madrid Open
Andreeva and Fernandez first crossed paths on the WTA Tour at the 2023 Madrid Open.
Andreeva won their opening-round encounter, beating the Canadian 6-3, 6-4 in Madrid.
But later that year, Fernandez got her revenge. At the China Open round of 16, she beat Andreeva 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
âSheâs very tough to play against,â Fernandez said after that match, according to CBS Canada.
âIâm very happy with the way I fought and the way I found solutions. I wasnât afraid of going to the net even though I was missing a lot.â
Their next meeting will take place once again in Madrid. While Andreeva is expected to come out on top this time around, she canât underestimate Fernandezâs current form â especially after her win over 15th seed Iva Jovic en route to the quarter-finals.
