âOver the past 16 months, we have had serious conversations with more than 100 parties, and to date, no viable offer has emerged that would keep the club here.
âIt remains the strong preference of this ownership group to find a solution in Vancouver. If there is a local ownership group with the vision and resources to chart a path forward, we urge them to come forward.â
Then, on Wednesday, British Columbia Premier David Eby took to social media, where he said in a video, âI want you to know that we are at the table fighting hard to save the Whitecaps.
âWe have the World Cup coming. We are a world-class football town. Losing the Whitecaps is not an option. I saw the shots of the fans out at the rally to save the Whitecaps. We are on the same side. We will fight hard to save our team.â
Subsequently, a comment from Garberâs account simply read, âLiar liar pants on fire.â
Upon realizing this, Garber quickly turned to damage control, posting, âMy account was compromised earlier this evening. The issue has been resolved. I appreciate Premier Eby for taking the time to meet with me today.â
This all marks a remarkable collapse in confidence surrounding the Whitecapsâ future in Vancouver, given that in December, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by both the team and the City to begin discussions through 2026 regarding the potential to construct a stadium and adjoining entertainment area at Hastings Park.
At present, this area is home to a Racecourse and Casino, the Playland Amusement Park, various parks and arenas, along with an athletics area which includes soccer fields, volleyball and basketball courts, and a running track.
âAfter an incredible year that saw the Whitecaps reach the MLS Cup Final for the first time in club history, it's clear just how much this team means to our city, and we're incredibly excited to be taking the next step forward,â said Mayor Ken Sim said at the time.

âThe partnership we are building today has the potential to create jobs, boost our local economy, and transform Hastings Park into an even more vibrant destination for sports, concerts, and community events.â
Now, just four months later, a spokesperson for the MLS has admitted that despite efforts to keep the Whitecaps in Vancouver, a move is a very real possibility.
âWe remain focused on supporting the club in identifying a sustainable long-term solution, and our preference is to find a path that allows the Whitecaps to continue to grow and succeed in Vancouver,â they told ESPN.
âAt the same time, we have a responsibility to ensure the long-term health of the league and its clubs, and we will evaluate all options, including interest that has been expressed in the club from other markets and investor groups.â
