Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts shared his thoughts on the Dodgersâ slump after returning from the injured list Tuesday.
Betts batted second for the Dodgers in his first game back, and went 1-for-5 with a single in the game. The Dodgers scored just three runs, something which has become a worrying trend for the defensing World Series champions. Betts is a huge addition to the Dodgersâ lineup, but itâll take more than just him to spark the offense.
âI know Iâm not the hero,â Betts said before the game. âItâs going to take us all.â
The Dodgers have experienced some high highs and low lows through the first week and a half of May, losing six of their 10 games so far this month. They scored 12 runs in a rout against the Astros last week, then proceeded to score just seven runs across a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves.
Mookie Betts acknowledged that he is not the hero and emphasized that it will take the entire team to improve their performance.

The Dodgers, as a whole, have been substandard, largely relying on Andy Pages and Max Muncy to generate offense over the past week or so, but Shohei Ohtani has stood out due to his lack of production at the plate over the past week or so.
Since the beginning of the month, Ohtani has a 10 wRC+, which is the second-worst mark on the team during that stretch. Heâs batting .111 this month, and hasnât hit a homer since April 26. The Dodgersâwithout a driving force in their offenseâhave struggled to put anything together.
Collectively, they have a 99 wRC+ during that timeframe, which ranks below average after their hot start to the season.
One player canât single-handedly save the offense, as Betts said, but the former MVP can certainly help.
His offensive contribution in Mondayâs game was minor, but prior to his injury in April, Betts had just begun to figure things out at the plate. He hit a home run the day before he left a game against the Washington Nationals early with an oblique strain, and rose his OPS above .700.
Betts didnât have the best year in 2025, but when heâs on his game, he is a force to be reckoned with. The Dodgers will hope to get that version of Betts as he ramps back up to speed against the Giants. His next opportunity to make an impact on the offense will come in Tuesdayâs game, which begins at 7:10 p.m. PT.
