A bit of college golf history is set to be made Friday at the Women's National Golf Invitational.
For the first time at a college golf event, players will have access to electric golf push carts, and it's happening at a postseason event. Modycaddy has partners with Golfweek's National Golf Invitational to provide electric caddies for every player in the field, should they choose to use one.
At the women's NGI, which kicks off Friday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes in Maricopa, Arizona, nearly 90 percent of the field is expected to use a Motocaddy product, with 74 percent using their electric push carts.
“Supporting this terrific event and group of student athletes aligns with our ambitions to become a greater part of the collegiate and amateur ecosystem,” Andy Warren, VP of Sales at Motocaddy, said. “Allowing NGI participants to experience the health and performance benefits of Motocaddy products is a fantastic opportunity for our brand and will provide a tangible benefit to the athletes themselves.”
Motocaddy has grown its partnerships in college golf in recent years, including collaborations with the Golf Coaches Association of America and the Women's Golf Coaches Association. This week, its impact on college golf takes its biggest step yet.
When college golf teams travel around the country, there's a lot of gear teams are responsible for lugging around the country. From clubs to clothes, most golfers are responsible for two to three bags. Add in a push cart for tournaments, it's more responsibility and more stress while traveling around.
An NCAA spokesperson said the electric push carts will be viewed a lot like experimental rules in other sports that are tested during the postseason. From that standpoint, the NCAA is excited to see how the carts are received by players, coaches and more.
At the NGI and thanks to Motocaddy, players and schools won't have to worry about lugging push carts around. An electric one will be waiting for them at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes.
