It’s Monday, and although basketball is over, college baseball and softball are still going strong. But our coverage is still going strong. Check out our original coverage and what we can find from the World Wide Web below.
Colorado State is close to wrapping up spring ball, and Kevin Lytle came away from nine players who opened his eyes during practices. Mel Brown appears to have emerged as the favorite to start at running back and could be a dynamic kick returner. Juice Vereen is a huge target at tight end who should see plenty of passes thrown his way, while Terrence Smith’s versatility is on display at wide receiver. Other players are mentioned, but both players are battling for the starting quarterback spot, Hauss Hejny and K’saan Farrar, have looked good, and the battle should continue into the fall.
Likewise, the Wolf Pack are done with spring practices, culminating in a spring game that was described as full of fun. The Silver team dominated the Blue team, notching three interceptions and scoring all the points. JUCO RB Janerious Jackson looks like a force, and QB AJ Bianco outplayed transfer Luke Duncan in the battle for the #2 spot.
Sean Reider provides a snapshot of where each position is at halfway through spring practices. Luke Moga and Toa Faavae seem even in the quarterback “evaluation”, while running back is building depth. The offensive line seems to have found their best five, and the wide receiver has been hampered by injuries. On defense, the line is moving through a lot of options to attempt to replicate last year’s pass-rush. Defensive back is deep and linebacker has a number of interesting players.
