Aiden Sherrell, a top transfer from Alabama, has committed to Indiana, disappointing Michigan State fans. Sherrell, a 6-foot-11 player from Detroit, averaged 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds last season.
Add another big-time transfer portal target to the list of swing-and-misses for the Spartans.
College basketball insider Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Wednesday afternoon that Alabama transfer Aiden Sherrell has committed to Indiana. The Hoosiers had been considered the favorite to land his commitment in recent days and it now appears to be locked up.
Sherrell, who is from Detroit, is one of the top prospects in the transfer portal. He started all 34 games for the Crimson Tide this past season, averaging 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. He was a former McDonald's All-American out of high school and received notable recruiting interest from the Spartans at that time as well.
At 6-foot-11, Sherrell has been a high-priority transfer portal target for the Spartans to help replace the production lost from graduating seniors Carson Cooper and Jaxon Kohler. Michigan State was considered one of the early favorites to land his commitment but ultimately an offer from Indiana was too good for Sherrell turn down it appears.
With Sherrell off the board, Michigan State will turn its focus elsewhere in the portal. There was a report earlier on Wednesday that the Spartans will host Charlotte transfer Anton Bonke this week and they've also been linked to Cincinnati big man Moustapha Thiam this week. Those will appear to be the next two top targets for the Spartans as we continue this race for a portal big man.
