Michigan State hockey has secured a commitment from five-star forward Ethan Belchetz for the 2026-27 season. Belchetz, a 6-foot-5, 227-pound prospect, is projected to be a first round pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
Michigan State hockey has added another elite-level talent to its 2026-27 roster.
The Spartans picked up a monster prospect on Tuesday morning, with five-star forward Ethan Belchetz announcing his commitment to Michigan State. Belchetz is listed at 6-foot-5 and 227 pounds and is considered to be a first round pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft this summer.
Belchetz played for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League this past season. He recorded 59 points in 57 games, and is expected to have an instant impact with the Spartans next season.
Corey Pronman of The Athletic has Belchetz mocked as the No. 14 overall pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Here's what he had to say about Belchetz:
"Belchetz was once thought of as a potential top-five pick due to his massive 6-foot-5 frame, hard elements and being able to score. He didn’t have a great season, though, and scouts have concerns about his pace. This deep into the draft, though, he starts to become very enticing, and Columbus takes the swing on him at No. 14."
Michigan State is already considered to have one of the best incoming freshman classes this upcoming season so this addition is only going to further that belief. The Spartans will once again field an extremely talented squad this upcoming season and remain a contender in both the Big Ten and at the national level.
