Michigan State reserve goaltender Melvin Strahl has entered the transfer portal, joining two other goaltenders leaving the team. Strahl, who had a 3-0-1 record this season, is expected to commit to Minnesota.
Make it all three of the Spartans goaltenders from this past season heading out the door.
Nathaniel Bott of the Lansing State Journal reported on Monday morning that Michigan State reserve goaltender Melvin Strahl has entered the transfer portal. The freshman goaltender leaving via the portal means the Spartans will have a completely new goalie room next season, with three-year starter Trey Augustine turning pro and third string goalie Dolan Gilbert also hitting the transfer portal.
Strahl played in four games this season with the Spartans, ending the year with a 3-0-1 record. He had a goals against average of 2.27 and save percentage of .922 in his limited action this year.
Bott reported Strahl is expected to commit to Minnesota via the portal.
With Strahl leaving via the portal, it appears Michigan State will lean on incoming freshman Joshua Ravensbergen as their starting goaltender next season. He is a first round pick of the San Jose Sharks and considered an elite prospect that most likely was going to win the starting spot next year if Strahl was still in the mix.
