Michigan State basketball is projected as a No. 2 seed in the 2027 NCAA Tournament by ESPN's Joe Lunardi. They are set to face the winner of Queens and Austin Peay in the first round.
Michigan State basketball looks to be setup for another high-level team next season, and one of the original bracketologists believes that to be the case too.
Joe Lunardi of ESPN has released his first look at the 2027 NCAA Tournament and to no surprise he is high on the Spartans. In a super early look ahead, Lunardi has Michigan State landing as the No. 2 seed in South Region of his most recent bracketology update.
Lunardi has Michigan State facing the winner of No. 15 seeds Queens and Austin Peay in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He has the Spartans in the Pittsburgh pod, with the No. 7 seed being Miami (FL) and the No. 10 seeds being Iowa and Baylor. To no surprise to Michigan State fans, Lunardi has Duke as the No. 1 seed in the Spartans' region.
Michigan State has been widely projected as a preseason top 10 team entering this offseason, with some even having the Spartans as their No. 1 team at the moment. So seeing Lunardi have the Spartans as a No. 2 seed in his early bracket projection for next year's NCAA Tournament really comes as no surprise.
Among Big Ten teams, only Michigan (No. 1 seed in Midwest Region) and Illinois (No. 1 seed in West Region) received higher seeds than the Spartans. Lunardi has a total of 12 teams from the Big Ten in his projection for the newly expanded field of 76 teams.
