EVANSVILLE ā This yearās Southern Indiana Athletic Conference boys track and field meet was, at one point, a tightly-contested battle between Castle and North. But eventually, the Knights pulled a way to win their second-consecutive conference meet.
As Benjamin Quach anchored the 4x400-meter relay for Castle to finish the night, he led out a burst of emotion. Then again, he did the same with his teammates as he left the track and jumped in their arms for a big embrace.
As the stadium was clearing, the celebrations continued for Castle as Central athletic director Catherine Ferris handed the team the trophy. It was the Knightsā night, a group coach Jake Bennett and his staff are immensely proud of.

On a personal level, it was a historic night for Quach, who set a SIAC record in the 200-meter with a time of 21.47. The previous record of 21.49 was set in 2017.
Ethan Morris was another victor for Castle, winning the 3,200-meter with a time of 10:00.22. And along with the 4x400, Castle came away as winners of the 4x800 relay as Austin Carlisle, Dane Kramer, Morris and Nathan Whitacre finished with a time of 8:11.37.
It was a week where the work was rewarded for Castle as the Knights were also winners of the girls meet on May 12. Without doubt, momentum is high heading into sectionals next week.
āIt was a goal of the team to win the SIAC, and we did that tonight,ā Bennett said.
More than anything, Bennett credits the athletes. They were the ones who earned the recognition and come to practice with the right attitude, and Bennett made sure to emphasize that. Not only did they represent Castle well at the SIAC meet, but these are habits carried out daily.
Bennett, who leads both the boys and girls teams, said the athletes make his job enjoyable. He refers to the boys and girls as one team competing in different events. They push each other every day and meet days are the culmination of it all.
āWe have a great coaching staff,ā Bennett said. āWeāve got six, including myself. But it just comes down to the kids, they work hard and the results are showing.ā
Bennett said he knows thereās more to come from his group and that they are far from satisfied. The Knights' result at the SIAC meet sets them up well for the state championship series, starting with sectionals back at Central on May 21 for the boys.
Other notables from the conference meet include the multiple SIAC records that were set. Just before Quach's 200-meter showing, Carter Zieren of Reitz set a conference record of his own in the 800-meter with a time of 1:53.70. The previous record of 1:54.28 was set in 2018.
Harrisonās 4x100 relay team of Richard Hilaire, Daerail Jamerson, Deandre Sanders and Kendrick Hart won in style, finishing with an SIAC-record time of 41.84. The Warriors surpassed their own record set in 2005 of 42.34.
Notable PAC boys track and field results
As far as the Pocket Athletic Conference boys track and field meet at Princeton, the hosts came away victorious. After finishing second to Heritage Hills in 2025, this year's outcome was reversed.
The Tigersā 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams both won, and so did Landon Wright in the 3,200-meter.
Multiple performers left the PAC meet winning two events. That list consists of Ryan Lilleston of Mt. Vernon, Aidan Alston of Gibson Southern, Jordan Paul of Boonville, Grant Boyd of Pike Central and Peyton Martin of Heritage Hills.
