The Philadelphia 76ers are preparing for Game 2 against the New York Knicks after a 137-98 loss in Game 1. Following a film session, players emphasize the need to improve both physically and mentally to compete effectively.
NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia 76ers are now looking ahead to Game 2 with the New York Knicks on Wednesday in their Round 2 series. The Sixers are in an early 0-1 hole as they were unable to match New York's physicality in a 137-98 loss to open this series in Game 1.
It was a quick turnaround for the Sixers as they were just in Boston on Saturday for an emotional Game 7 win before then heading to New York to begin Round 2 against another physical opponent. Philadelphia looked a bit fatigued and it showed as it trailed the Knicks by as many as 40 on Monday night.
After a long film session on Tuesday, the Sixers believe the adjustments are simple: just get into this series.
"We got to bring ourselves to the game," said Kelly Oubre Jr. "Not just physically, but mentally, and make the adjustments that we saw on film from what they did well, what we didn't do well, and then capitalize from there, but we definitely have to bring our brand of basketball to the series."
The Sixers have bounced back from everything all season. They have been able to fight through adversity and showed their toughness on an every night basis. Game 2 on Wednesday will be another challenge for this group as Philadelphia looks to show its resolve and toughness once again by playing its brand of basketball.
"Just out there having fun," Oubre added. "Out there flying around, being athletic, being versatile, and utilizing our weapons that we have on the court. I think that, that's our brand of basketball. Obviously, gritty, resilient, and physical."
Physicality is going to be a big part of what the Sixers want to do in the coming weeks in this series. The Knicks are big, long, and have a sense of what they want to do as time moves on. That is something the Sixers will have to match on Wednesday to even up this series.
"Intensity, effort, physicality," added rookie VJ Edgecombe. "I think that's the main thing. That's where it starts. They're a really physical team, and they're good. So, if we lack physicality and effort, the score’s going to be like that every night."
The Sixers plan to improve their physical and mental approach to the game based on insights from their film session.
