The Philadelphia 76ers lost Game 1 of the playoffs to the New York Knicks, 137-98. They aim to bounce back in Game 2 despite the significant defeat.
NEW YORK -- Blowouts happen in the NBA. Even in the playoffs. It's all about responding and moving on to the next game with a new opportunity.
The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the New York Knicks 137-98 in Game 1 of Round 2 on Monday night to fall behind the Knicks 1-0 in this series. The Sixers trailed by 23 at halftime and by as many as 40 on the night.
The Sixers fell to the Boston Celtics by 32 points in both Game 1 and Game 4. In each instance, they found a way to bounce back and win the next one. That is their challenge now for Game 2 on Wednesday.
"Well, you have to," said coach Nick Nurse. "Again, it’s like, I know that wasn't any fun. It wasn't any fun to sit there, to be a part of, to be honest, and watch, but it's 0-1. It doesn't really matter if it's six points or 36 or whatever the hell it was. It’s 0-1. You got to wash that one away and get back, and we have to provide much more energy and physicality and that kind of stuff."
To Nurse's point, the Sixers are down 0-1. It is what it is. They need to be able to bounce back and get ready for their next opportunity for Game 2 on Wednesday. This stuff does happen in the NBA and the players know that. It's time to forget about this and move on. Philadelphia has shown its resilience in the past and will have to do so again in this series.
"Like he (Nurse) said, it doesn't matter," added Tyrese Maxey. "We lose by seven or 70. It doesn't really matter. They won one game and we lost one game. Like he said, we're gonna make some adjustments, and we'll be ready for Game 2. Like, Game 1 doesn't carry over to Game 2, and we'll be ready to play."
The Knicks have been red hot as of late as they are coming off a 51-point drubbing of the Atlanta Hawks to eliminate them in Round 1. New York led that game by as many as 61 and entered this contest on a high note. The Knicks shot 63.1% from the floor and 19-for-37 from deep while Philadelphia clocked in at 41.1% from the floor and 11-for-30 from deep.

"I mean, just get settled in, you know?" added Paul George. "Yeah, we have breakdowns tonight, but they also shot the (expletive) out of the ball. They were hot. They came out hot. They came out on fire, but it’s a game of adjustments. We’ll make adjustments. See what we need to get better at, but, yeah. Again, the same as last series. It’s one. They don't get any extra points for going up big tonight, we'll be ready for Game 2."
This series continues on Wednesday from Madison Square Garden.
