Nashville defeated Club América in the quarterfinals after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at home on April 7 and a 1-0 win in the second leg on April 14 in Mexico City. Hany Mukhtar scored the game's lone goal as NSC became the first-ever MLS team to win at the historic Estadio Azteca and just the seventh to win a competitive match anywhere in Mexico.
Nashville beat Atletico Ottawa 7-0 on aggregate in the first round and defeated Inter Miami on away goals (1-1 on aggregate) in the round of 16.
UANL faced the Seattle Sounders in the quarterfinals. After winning the first leg 2-0 at home, Tigres lost the second leg 3-1 in Seattle but advanced to the semifinals due to away goals. They beat Forge FC 5-0 in the first round and FC Cincinnati 5-4 in the round of 16, rallying from a 3-0 loss in the first leg to win 5-1 at home in the second.
This will be Nashville's first appearance in the Champions Cup semifinals. Tigres won the competition in 2020 and finished as runners-up in 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2019.
Nashville (5-1-1, 16 points) is off to a strong start in MLS play and currently sits in first place in the Eastern Conference. UANL is sixth in the Clausura, the second half of the Liga MX season, with three matches remaining. Tigres, who are eight-time Liga MX champions, finished second during the Apertura phase last fall.
