The incident occurred with 11:13 remaining in the second quarter of the Hornetsâ 127-126 overtime win over the Heat on April 14 in the SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament, the NBA said.
If the foul was upgraded during the game, Ball would have been ejected.
Ball scored the game-winning basket in overtime that pushed the Hornets past the Heat.
The NBA also fined Ball $25,000 for cursing during a live postgame TV interview, the NBA said.
The Hornets will play in another play-in game Friday night to whoever loses tonightâs Magic-76ers game.
