Nebraska wins 7-6 to clinch series over Kansas State

Nebraska baseball (34-11) faced off against Kansas State (26-19) for the third and final time this season on Tuesday night. After evening the series in March, the Huskers clinched it with a 7-6 victory over the Wildcats.

Nebraska snatched the win in walk-off fashion. Rhett Stokes delivered the game-winner in the ninth with an RBI single, after the Huskers fell behind 6-4 in the sixth. Nebraska initially held the lead after going up 3-0 in the first off two wild pitches and a fielding error. Kansas State jumped ahead after scoring in four consecutive innings, which included three home runs that contributed five runs.

The Huskers tied the game in the seventh before Stokes' walk-off in the ninth. Nebraska tallied 14 hits and no errors in the win. Kansas State totaled eight hits and one error.

Jeter Worthley plated a perfect 5-for-5 on the night, becoming the first Husker freshman to record a five-hit game since Gunner Hellstrom in 2018. He also earned a triple and scored twice in the win. Mac Moyer also scored twice and finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Joshua Overbeek batted 2-for-5 night with a double.

J’Shawn Unger (6-1) earned the win, closing out the final 2.0 innings with two strikeouts to shut out the Wildcats. Tucker Timmerman started at the mound and threw three strikeouts against three hits and three runs across 4.0 innings. Caleb Clark,  and  each pitched an inning and combined for five strikeouts.
