Nets' Day'Ron Sharpe explains what he's working on this offseason

NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets center Day'Ron Sharpe has seemed to get better every season ever since he earned his role as the backup center to starter Nic Claxton a few years ago. Over the past couple of seasons, Brooklyn has been able to rely on Sharpe for qualify minutes at the backup center spot, but he is not satisfied with where his game is at.

"I think my body still has been one of my biggest things. So, just my body in general because I want to be more explosive next season. I’m trying to dunk on guys more next season," Sharpe said during his exit interview early in March. Sharpe had his breakout season ended early due to a left UCL tear in his thumb, but he has big plans for his summer once he recovers from his injury.

"My 3-pointer, I know I’ve said plenty of times, but I believe I can shoot the ball great. So, just keep building my confidence in that area and just being more comfortable with the ball in my hands," Sharpe continued. "The style of basketball we play, we run a lot of split game, so just being more comfortable with the basketball in my hand so I can make better decisions when I have the basketball in my hand."

Sharpe, 24, finished the 2025-26 season averaging 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 60.1% from the field and 67.8% from the free-throw line. Sharpe achieved per-game career-highs in many categories, including points, rebounds, assists, and field-goal percentage all while playing just 18.7 minutes per game.

Sharpe has done plenty of work on his body since being taken with the 29th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and it seems that the rest of his game has come along as his conditioning improved. Once he is able to prepare for next season, Sharpe plans to do more than just get back in shape as he is looking to do more on the court, including from the perimeter and at the rim.
