Brooklyn Nets center Day'Ron Sharpe is coming off arguably the best season of his career as he continued to show more of his skillset while being a dependable backup behind starter Nic Claxton. Sharpe has made various changes over the past few years to make him one of Brooklyn's most consistent players and because of that, he could be highly-coveted this summer if he is a free-agent.
"Sharpe is a big-bodied bench big, drafted by the Nets in 2021 (No. 29). In relatively short minutes (18.7), Sharpe remains a productive rebounder. His field-goal percentage has improved to a career-best 60.1 percent," Eric Pincus wrote for Bleacher Report regarding Sharpe. Pincus ranked Sharpe was the 58th-best potential free-agent (out of 65) this summer, but that will depend on whether Brooklyn picks up his $6.25 million team option.
"The Nets don't have their own first-round pick after 2026-27 and are expected to try to improve significantly after this past season's rebuild," Pincus continued. "Sharpe has an inexpensive team option. Brooklyn probably chooses to keep him rather than letting him go for nothing as a free agent. Or, the team could opt him in to trade him."
Sharpe, 24, ended the 2025-26 season with averages of 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 60.1% from the field and 67.8% from the free-throw line. Sharpe had his season ended prematurely in March when he suffered a UCL tear in his left thumb that required surgery, but the Nets have yet to provide more details on what his recovery timeline looks like.
Given how inexpensive Sharpe's team option is for next season, the expectation is that Brooklyn will exercise the option, but the bigger question will be if the team decides to sign Sharpe to another extension this summer. There is still plenty of time before Nets fans will find out if Sharpe is coming back to Brooklyn for another year or for the near future, but either way, he would be drawing attention from some teams if he were to become a free-agent.
