The Brooklyn Nets are heading into an important summer where they will have to make significant additions to the roster if they're going to improve from a 20-62 record in the 2025-26 season. Brooklyn came away from Sunday's 2026 NBA Draft Lottery with the No. 6 pick and not only could that shake up their plans, but the front office is changing as well.
The Nets announced on Thursday that they promoted Makar Gevorkian to assistant general manager after spending the past two seasons as vice president of basketball operations and strategic planning. Gevorkian originally joined Brooklyn in 2020 as a basketball operations assistant and since then, he has continued to work his way up the ladder to being an assistant general manager to current general manager Sean Marks.
"Makar’s strategic, forward-thinking mind, along with his comprehensive knowledge of the league’s salary cap structure, have made him a valued voice within our front office and we are excited to elevate him to this well-earned role," Marks said in a statement on Gevorkian's promotion. Gevorkian's expertise with the salary cap will be helpful for a Nets team that is looking to rebuild sooner rather than later and may need to be creative with their finances to do so.
In other news, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported on Thursday that Acie Law left the Nets to join the Chicago Bulls to be their VP of Player Personnel. Law was the director of player personnel for Brooklyn this past season and prior to that, he held various scouting roles for the Sacramento Kings and Oklahoma City Thunder since the 2018-19 season.
Makar Gevorkian is the newly promoted assistant general manager of the Brooklyn Nets, having previously served as vice president of basketball operations.

Gevorkian's expertise in salary cap management is expected to be crucial as the Nets look to make significant roster improvements following a disappointing season.

The Nets could free up nearly $50 million this offseason depending on how many players they re-sign from last season along with how they approach extension talks with forwards Michael Porter Jr. and Noah Clowney. Brooklyn will have to replace their top-ranking scout from this past season, but they should also be better able to navigate the salary cap during an important time for the franchise.
