The Miami Dolphins have signed linebackers David Ojabo and Joshua Uche, who both played together at Michigan in 2019. Ojabo discussed their strong relationship during his first media availability with the team.
The Miami Dolphins brought in several free agents on the defensive side of the ball this offseason, including a pair of linebackers with some history.
David Ojabo and Joshua Uche both played their college ball at Michigan, crossing paths for one season in 2019 before the New England Patriots took Uche in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft.
While Uche has bounced around between three teams in the last two seasons, Ojabo, who the Baltimore Ravens took in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, stayed with just one franchise.
Now, they're both in South Florida, and during his first media availability since joining the Dolphins, Ojabo shared gave some insight into his relationship with Uche.
"Yeah, that's my brother, man. It's almost like my big bro," Ojabo said. "I showed him a photo, actually [from] when I was in high school, visiting Michigan, and he just finished a practice, and it was me and my mom. My mom looked at him and was like, 'Take care of my son. Be his big bro. He's going to be looking up to you.' He said he got me. Ever since then, honestly, he's been looking out. My first car, I got it from him, green Range Rover. So he's been taking care of me, man. I gave him a call, honestly, after Coach Hafley reached out and just asked him like, 'man, what you think about this? Any advice, any way you could lead me?' He said, 'man, let's come here and do this thing, man.'
"At Michigan, we never really got to play with each other because I was a freshman. He had already got some experience. So I mean, now what an opportunity. All we need is an opportunity, right? So what opportunity to be on the field with him and honestly just win, man."
Right now, Ojabo and Uche appear to be fighting for the top edge rusher spot opposite former first-round pick Chop Robinson. While that competition could get messy for some players, those two will likely be rooting for each other's success.
