Patrick Ricard, the New York Giants fullback, signed a two-year, $7.6 million deal after nine years with the Baltimore Ravens. He expressed emotional turmoil about leaving Baltimore, stating he cried upon realizing his career there was over.
New York Giants fullback Patrick Ricard is expected to play a major role in the team's backfield this season. Ricard signed a two-year, $7.6 million deal with the Giants this offseason after spending nine years with the Baltimore Ravens.
Ricard reunited with his former head coach during free agency, signing with the Giants just two months after John Harbaugh took over. The duo enjoyed significant success together over their nine seasons in Baltimore, and Ricard should provide an immediate boost to the Giants' blocking unit throughout the 2026 campaign.
Ricard recently reflected on his nine seasons in Baltimore, describing the range of emotions he felt as he began a new chapter in New York.
"Even when I went and signed, I don't think it fully hit me yet," he said. "After I signed, I went back home to Massachusetts, and I was there for a couple of weeks until OTAs started. And I remember there was one point where I was just thinking about it, and I'm not going to lie, I actually started crying. I started crying just thinking like, 'Wow, I'm not going back to Baltimore. That part of my career, that part of my life is over.'
"Once I finally went to OTAs on the first day, met my teammates, and was in the building working, I think that's when it finally hit me. So many memories, so many emotions that were a part of my life there [in Baltimore]. I've always wanted to retire as a Raven, be there for my whole career, just because of how much it means to me. It's almost like you're mourning. I'm always super grateful for my time there, and it's something I'll always look back on."
Ricard earned six Pro Bowl selections during his nine seasons in Baltimore. The veteran fullback will look to pick up right where he left off, and he could prove to be one of the Giants' most important additions of the entire offseason.
One of the top fullbacks in the NFL throughout his career, Ricard should have no trouble carving out a significant role in Matt Nagy’s offense this season.
