The New York Giants may have landed one of the biggest steals of the first round in the 2026 NFL draft.
New York selected Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick last weekend. Many analysts from both the college and NFL worlds had the big man projected as a top-five selection. At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Mauigoa is a versatile lineman who could play either guard or tackle if needed.
Mauigoa was widely regarded as one of the top offensive linemen in college football throughout his three seasons at Miami. Retired Giants wide receiver Jeremy Shockey recently shared his thoughts on the selection, expressing clear excitement about the massive lineman’s potential.
"He's an impact player right out of the gate," Shockey told the New York Post. "There's not going to be a play where he isn't playing this year. He's an amazing talent. He came into the University of Miami as a freshman and made a statement. He's as tough as they come, as gifted as they come."
Shockey continued by highlighting Mauigoa's versatility at both tackle and guard.
"I'm super, super excited for this pick. Obviously, I'm a Miami guy, but the Giants should be thrilled. This guy is the real deal, and he was top-five on my board. He's an amazing talent," Shockey said. "If they move him to guard, he'll be an All-Pro guard his first year. He's that good. And if they need him at tackle, he played that all through college. So great pick—I’m very excited for him."
Mauigoa will provide a much-needed boost in protection for star quarterback Jaxon Dart in 2026. If Andrew Thomas remains healthy, the Giants could quickly boast one of the top offensive lines in the NFL next season. Mauigoa’s presence in the trenches represents a massive upgrade for the G-men moving forward.
