From basketball phenom dreams to a viral rim-breaking moment
Long before he dominated the defensive line, Jamison-Travis envisioned himself as the next Shaquille O’Neal on the hardwood. He only began focusing seriously on football in eighth grade and did not play organized basketball until his senior year of high school.
That changed dramatically when a viral Twitter video captured him shattering a basketball rim during a pickup game. The clip caught the eye of Minneapolis North High School coach Larry McKenzie, who recruited him to the team on the spot. Jamison-Travis responded by exploding for 27 points and 11 rebounds in the Twin City Championship game, showcasing the raw athleticism that would later translate to the football field.
Overcoming academic challenges at Iowa Western JUCO
After graduating from high school, Jamison-Travis did not initially qualify academically for a Division I program. He enrolled at Iowa Western Community College, where he transformed into one of the top junior college defensive linemen in the country. He earned the distinction of No. 1 JUCO prospect in Iowa and No. 3 nationally at his position. His standout performance, including first-team NJCAA All-America honors and key contributions to a national championship, opened the door to Auburn University and eventually the NFL.
