The New York Giants signed undrafted free agent Damon Bankston, a running back from New Mexico, ahead of their rookie minicamp. Bankston has versatile experience, contributing as a rusher, receiver, and kick returner.
The New York Giants will host their rookie minicamp this weekend, and ahead of that minicamp, they signed several undrafted free agents. Those players will also attend the minicamp, as well as OTAs and training camp later this summer, in an effort to earn a roster spot with the Giants.
The most recent undrafted free agent to sign with the Giants is New Mexico running back Damon Bankston.
Bankston signed with the Giants on the first day of minicamp, and he is a classic utility player. He played four years at Weber State before joining the New Mexico Lobos in 2025, and he garnered stats as a running back, a receiver, and a kick returner.
As a rusher at New Mexico, Bankston recorded 144 carries for 635 yards and five touchdowns. As a receiver, he caught 31 passes for 397 yards and three touchdowns. As a kickoff return man, he returned 12 kicks for 434 yards and two touchdowns. That's a total of 1,466 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.
Fun tidbit: Dan Duggan notes that John Harbaugh has rostered an undrafted free agent in 17 of 18 seasons with the Ravens, including All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker and All-Pro fullback Pat Ricard. There's always a diamond in the rough, and Harbaugh seems adept at finding them.
After signing with the Giants on Friday, Bankston hopes to show enough talent and skill to earn a roster spot for the 2026 season.
