New York Giants signing veteran DT Shelby Harris

The New York Giants are signing veteran defensive tackle Shelby Harris, reports NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

The move comes as the team continues to reshape its defensive line following the trade of two-time All-Pro nose tackle Dexter Lawrence.

Harris, a Wisconsin native, spent the 2025 season with the Cleveland Browns, where he appeared in 17 games with five starts. He recorded seven tackles for loss and four passes defensed, providing reliable interior presence and run-stopping ability.

The 32-year-old met with Giants officials in late March, before the NFL Draft, as the club evaluated free-agent options to strengthen the position.

General manager Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh had publicly stated their intention to sign several veteran defensive tackles once the draft concluded and after Lawrence’s departure. The team deliberately waited until the 2027 compensatory-pick window closed before finalizing the addition, ensuring maximum flexibility in future draft capital.

"We've been in contact with several agents of veteran defensive tackles. We'll continue to keep those communications open and see what happens next week and maybe have a couple more visits with some vet guys. Certainly on our radar," Schoen said after the draft.

Harris brings more than a decade of NFL experience and is expected to compete for playing time in a revamped defensive front that features strong edge talent but needs additional depth inside.

Terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed.
