The New York Jets have made a contract offer to Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson after a private workout. Wilson is considering his options, including a potential career as an NFL analyst.

The New York Jets appear committed to having Geno Smith as their starting quarterback for the start of the 2026 NFL season. Yet, the front office has invested in other players, including spending a fourth-round pick on Clemson QB Cade Klubnik.
The other options, Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe, are not starting material. Though, Jets general manager Darren Mougey recently made an attempt at strengthening the Jets’ QB room by bringing in another starting-caliber arm.
According to free agent QB Russell Wilson, the Jets recently made him a contract offer when they brought in the 37-year-old for a private workout.
While Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl champion, appreciated the offer, he says he’s still weighing what to do next. Some potential options include becoming an NFL analyst, discussing the game he loves on TV.
Yet, Wilson also suggests that he “knows I can play ball at a high level.”
“It was great,” Wilson said, via Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. “They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but also I have an opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
Those comments are what lead us to believe that Wilson will be joining an NFL roster, somewhere, at some point during the 2026 NFL season, rather than make good money on TV talking about football. He can talk about football until he’s blue in the face, but there will only be so many more opportunities he gets to actually take the field. In fact, the Jets may be one of his final chances to compete.
