New York Mets fans have discovered one of the cheapest entry points in sports, but the real cost is telling a different story.
In a city where even a basic meal can easily cross double digits, the idea of attending a live MLB game for less than $10 feels almost unreal. Yet that is exactly what some Mets tickets are currently being listed for.
It sounds like a bargain on the surface, but as many fans quickly pointed out, that number does not tell the full story.

As shown in Sarah McCroryâs post on X, fans can technically get into Citi Field for less than the price of a slice of pizza.
The context makes it even more striking. In New York City, where everyday expenses are among the highest in the country, a $6 ticket stands out as a rare exception.
That price typically applies to low-demand games and upper-level seating, where resale platforms are trying to fill inventory.
Across the 2026 season, entry-level Mets tickets have been seen in the $5 to $12 range, depending on the opponent and timing.
But while the headline number grabs attention, it does not include the layers that come with actually attending a game.
That is where the reaction from fans quickly shifted the conversation.
New York Mets tickets are currently listed for as low as $6.
Fans have pointed out that the low ticket prices do not reflect additional hidden fees that increase the overall cost.
The drop in ticket prices is part of an effort to attract more fans to games amid rising living costs in New York City.

One fan summed it up bluntly, saying, âNo such thing as $6 tix when parking is $50.â And that is not an exaggeration, with Citi Field parking reaching around $50 on game day.
Others pointed directly at ticket platforms, noting, âUntil you get hit with a $15 resale fee.â Service fees on resale sites can often add 20 to 30 percent on top of the listed price, turning a $6 ticket into something much higher by checkout.
Travel costs also came up repeatedly. One fan pointed out, âYet for me to go itâs $70-$80 just to drive to Citi Field from NJ,â highlighting how transportation alone can outweigh the ticket price several times over.
There was also some perspective from outside New York, with one comment noting, âThatâs fun! LA games arenât anything less than $50 at this point,â showing how rare sub-$10 tickets are across MLB.
And then there was the most New York response of all, âIâd rather get a slice of pizza and a Coke for $8.â
That mix of reactions captures the reality. Yes, the Mets are offering one of the cheapest entry points in baseball. But once everything else is factored in, the experience still comes at a price.
