There are a lot of ways to sum up how things are going for the New York Mets right now. One of them? That photo of a fan in a paper bag at the top of the article was not the only one to choose from taken by Imagn Images photographer Wendell Cruz on Tuesday night.
For those not keeping score at home, the Mets have now lost 12 games in a row. They took a 3-0 lead over the Minnesota Twins before allowing five unanswered runs.
Most teams don't have a 12-game losing streak at any point in the season. The Mets have found there way to one in April.
Those paper bag photos aren't the only way to sum up how rough it's getting, either.
The New York Times took their own little shot at the Mets' ability in a recent correction. They had an article mis-reference when the Mets' 11th consecutive loss had occurred.
Their article originally said Monday, which was actually an off-day for the Mets.
This is what the correction said:
"Because of an editing error, an earlier version of this article misstated which day the New York Mets suffered their 11th straight loss. It was on Sunday, not Monday. Even the Mets cannot lose on an off day."
From the top rope: Even the Mets cannot lose on an off day.
Incredible.
And true, although at this point, Mets fans would probably believe that their team could indeed lose on an off day.
This season is already threatening to fall entirely off the rails. Last year, it took until a late collapse for things to feel miserable for the Mets. This year, it has happened by Earth Day.
You know it's rough when the New York Times' editing staff is getting in on the act.
The New York Mets are currently on a 12-game losing streak.
In their latest game, the Mets took a 3-0 lead but ultimately lost to the Minnesota Twins after allowing five unanswered runs.
The paper bag photo symbolizes the frustration and despair of Mets fans during the team's ongoing losing streak.
