Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Gordon’s commitment to club amid transfer talk
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has shed light on his relationship with Anthony Gordon, after it was reported that the winger’s representatives had spoken to other clubs.
Ahead of Newcastle’s visit to Nottingham Forest, Howe was asked again about the situation surrounding Anthony Gordon, as the forward has been linked to a move away from the club in the summer.
Reports have linked Gordon to clubs like Bayern Munich, though when asked if he knew about the links, Howe simply said: “That’s not something I’m involved in.”
Howe had previously stated that he would not include players in his squad that he felt were not 100% committed to the club, but when questioned about Gordon’s involvement on Sunday, he added: “I always do what’s right for the team and best for the football club.
“Those comments weren’t related to Anthony Gordon, they were general and I like to think I’ve been consistent with that in my time as manager here and that’s not going to change now.”
As to whether he believes Gordon remains 100% committed to the club he joined in 2023, Howe continued: “Yeah. He wouldn’t be in the squad if that was [not] the case, and as I said many times, I don’t judge that on communications elsewhere, I do that with my relationship with the player and how I see them train.”
Gordon has been an incredibly important player for Newcastle since his signing from Everton, this season alone providing five assists and scoring 17 goals across all competitions, including four against Qarabag in the Champions League.
