Newcastle United put Sandro Tonali on the market, €100 price tag fixed
As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle United have put their star Italian midfielder, Sandro Tonali, on the market, and will ask a fee in the region of €100 million to let him go this summer.
After missing out on Champions League qualification, and amid the ongoing rollback of the Public Investment Fund’s sporting interests due to global developments, Newcastle’s financial woes are worsening. Among other objectives, they will be keen on big sales ahead of next season, and Tonali remains one of their most prized assets.
The 26-year-old has three more years remaining on his £7.8m-per-year contract. And while both his contract and Newcastle’s three-figure demand means a return to Italy is unlikely, Tonali’s has received enough plaudits to warrant a stay in England.
This is likely, with Man United eyeing him a long-term option as they prepare for a midfield rebuild ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.
While the Magpies can expect a profit on their initial €60m investment, they may have to acquiesce to an amount lower than the €100m number being reported at the moment.
Last season, despite ultimately losing him to Liverpool, Newcastle were able to hold their ground enough to get the €145 million they were asking for . However, they were in the Champions League last season and had just come off a trophy-winning campaign as well; the landscape has changed wildly within a span of 12 months.

At the moment, Man United are biggest name linked with Tonali, though other teams both from within the Premier League and Europe may enter the market in the coming weeks. Given Newcastle’s predicament, though, as well as the fact that Tonali is pushing for a move, one can expect him at a different club next season.
