The Pittsburgh Steelers are a frustrating organization. While they haven't had a losing season since 2003, they also haven't won a playoff game since 2017.
Assuming Aaron Rodgers comes back, there's a good chance both trends will continue in 2026. Rodgers led the Steelers to 10 wins and the AFC North title last season before getting throttled at home by the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.
After Mike Tomlin stepped down and Rodgers became a free agent, Pittsburgh finally had a chance to reset this offseason and start building for the future. Instead, it doubled down on its mediocre present by hiring Mike McCarthy and waiting four months for Rodgers to make a decision.
Analysts argue that the Steelers' complacency in re-signing Rodgers does not address the team's ongoing playoff struggles and lack of recent success.

NFL analyst Zach Gelb believes the Steelers have gotten too comfortable and aren't willing to do what it takes to build a legit Super Bowl contender.
"The Steelers are no longer in the business for wanting excellence," Gelb said Thursday on 365 Sports. "They've become a complacent organization. That's what the Steelers have become... They're fine with just winning their nine, 10, 11 games each and every year and not making the postseason."
Gelb thinks Pittsburgh would be better off giving one of its young quarterbacks, Will Howard or Drew Allar, a shot. If it doesn't work out, then at least they'll get a high draft pick and can take a better QB through the draft.
But bringing Rodgers back only guarantees another year without a championship.
"It is completely pointless to bring back Aaron Rodgers with the Pittsburgh Steelers," Gelb added. "I think they've become complacent. They have six Super Bowl championships. The standard there should be about winning Super Bowls. They have not been in the business for the last decade of winning Super Bowls... They need to get the Steelers back moving in the right direction."
Once Rodgers retires or decides to play somewhere else, maybe Pittsburgh will finally do that.
