Kyle Pitts has been franchise tagged by the Atlanta Falcons, securing a one-year, $15 million contract. NFL analyst Kevin Patra predicts that Pitts will sign a long-term extension to stay with the team.
The Atlanta Falcons have had a busy offseason, from front office/coaching staff changes to free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft. The team has added several new faces, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, cornerback Avieon Terrell and offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor.
The Falcons also re-signed a handful of players and used their franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts. The former top-five pick will stay in Atlanta for at least one more season. Pitts essentially signed a one-year, $15 million contract, but there's some debate on whether or not the team should sign him to a long-year deal.
Last season, Pitts posted the best numbers of his career, finishing with 88 catches for 928 receiving yards and five touchdowns, Even though he had more total yards as a rookie, Pitts' 2025 campaign put him back on the map as one of the league's top tight ends.
NFL.com's Kevin Patra broke down this year's franchise tag recipients, weighing the pros and cons of a potential long-term deal before making a final prediction on each player. Patra said he believes Pitts will in fact sign an extension to remain in Atlanta.
"Prediction: Pitts signs an extension that keeps him among the highest-paid TEs, but below the likes of Kittle and McBride," Patra predicted.
However, he thinks the team could wait to see what happens with Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft, who is also due for an extension.

"The timing of any potential extension is worth monitoring," added Patra. "Green Bay tight end Tucker Kraft is also eligible for a new deal this offseason, and despite a season-ending ACL tear, there are indications the Packers would like to get a deal done. The camps of Pitts and Kraft could be playing a waiting game to see where the other lands."
While Pitts has often been criticized throughout his five-year career, he's only 25 years old and producing like a top-five player at his position. The Falcons' wide receivers struggled with injuries last season, but Pitts was there to pick up the slack.
The former Florida Gators standout led the team in receiving yards, topping star wideout Drake London, who missed several games down the stretch. Over his five seasons in Atlanta, Pitts has 284 receptions for 3,579 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.
Currently, the Falcons have around $19 million available, according to Over The Cap's projections.
